Today the press service of the New Times Party (NZhK) released a
statement which runs.
"On February 24 armed and masked soldiers of the "Alpha" group of the
National Security Service (NSS) attacked the cars of the NZhK leader
Aram Karapetian in broad daylight near the marketplace of Erebuni.
They forced Aram Karapetian, NZhK board member Samvel Khachatrian,
the bodyguards and drivers to lie on the ground. Afterwards, they
were taken to the NSS headquarters.
On the same day Colonel M. Marukian, Inspector of the NSS Investigation
Department, drew up a report on the arrest. "Aram Karapetian is
suspected of slander, since he accused President Robert Kocharian
and Prime Minister Serzh Sarkissian of high treason and organizing
a terrorist act.
To remind, on February 12 the NZhK leader issued his second CD in
which he touched upon the plan of surrendering Meghri to Azerbaijan
/"Haykakan Zhamanak" newspaper, on February 9/ and the interrelation
of this plan and October 27. Moreover, Aram Karapetian had voiced
concern in his letters to the Speaker of the National Assembly Tigran
Torossian, Prosecutor General Aghvan Hovsepian and Head of the National
Security Service Gorik Hakobian.
The statement of the party informs that on February 24 and 25 National
Security Service officers searched the office of the party, took away
the computers and sealed the door, but could not find anything that
would prove the suspicion.
