Yerevan /Mediamax/. Armenian President Robert Kocharian stated that
"the state cannot endlessly tolerate violation of law".
Mediamax reports that the President said this on late February 26 in an
interview to the Public TV of Armenia, commenting on the fact that the
supporters of the former presidential candidate Levon Ter-Petrosian
have been holding unapproved rallies and processions in the center
of Yerevan, paralyzing the vital activity of the capital city.
"The Police should have taken up measures long time ago and did not
do that only for one reason – I urged the employees of law enforcement
bodies to demonstrate patience hoping that the people will understand
everything themselves. I believe that 6 days is a sufficient term for
coming to one’s senses. We will wait a little more, however the further
delay may create distrust in the society towards the law-enforcement
system. We have the force, however we understand that there are many
mistaken people at the square", Armenian President stated.
Robert Kocharian noted that the representatives of the Council of
Europe and the OSCE, who visited Yerevan this week, singled out the
restraint of the Armenian authorities. "However, our patience cannot
be unlimited. I told our guests that in their countries no one would
tolerate such lawlessness for more than one day", Armenian President
stressed.
