Armenian and Azerbaijani border security guards have clashed near
the disputed territory of Nagorno-Karabakh, officials say.

Armenia’s Prime Minister claims that several Azerbaijani troops
had been killed, but Azerbaijani officials have not confirmed any
casualties.

Local media reports in Azerbaijan say two soldiers have been killed.

The clashes come as Azerbaijan’s president Ilham Aliev issues his
latest warning that the country must be prepared to resort to force
to regain control over Nagorno-Karabakh.

The region is inside Azerbaijan, but since 1994 has been under the
control of ethnic Armenian forces.

Skirmishes often break out on a ceasefire line dividing the forces
with Azerbaijan and Armenia blaming each other for clashes.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
