ARMENIAN OPPOSITION LEADER APPEARS IN COURT

Armenia’s former President Levon Ter-Petrosyan, who has reportedly been
under house arrest since the dispersalof opposition rallies in the
capital Yerevan on 2 March, arrived at the Constitutional Court on 5
March to attend ahearing into his appeal against the official results
of the 19 February presidential polls, Mediamax news agencyreported.

The news agency quoted the chairman of the Constitutional Court,
Gagik Harutyunyan, as saying at the court sessionthat Ter-Petrosyan
could not only attend the session but also make a final speech.

Armenia’s Central Electoral Commission is the defendant in the case,
while the Police, theProsecutor-General’s Office and the National TV
and Radio Commission are co-defendants, the agency said.

Under the law, the court is to issue a ruling on the case by 8 March
inclusive, Mediamax added.
