Serzh Sargsyan, Artur Bagdasarian, and Gagik Tsarukian, the leaders of
the three major political parties in Armenia — the Republican Party,
the Prospering Armenia, and Orinats Yerkir – are said to have signed a
statement condemning the actions of the supporters of first Armenian
post-Soviet President and recent opposition presidential candidate
Levon Ter-Petrosian.

Sargsyan told journalists that the opposition was obviously bent on
discrediting the Armenian government and its people. "We should make
serious efforts to convince the authors of this scenario that they
are not on the right track," he said.

Talking about the recent unrest in Yerevan, Sargsyan insisted that
"all organizers, regardless of their rank and the degree of their
guilt, must stand trial."

"We should put an end to such attempts [to destabilize the situation
in the country] once and for all," Sargsyan said. He urged those who
participated in the revolt to voluntarily turned themselves in to law
enforcement, saying that could be considered a mitigating circumstance
in the future.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
