March 7, 2008

Yerevan /Mediamax/. Spokesman of Armenian President Viktor Soghomonian
believes that `the world is forming clear idea of what was happening in
Yerevan on March 1-2 in reality’.

Mediamax reports that, speaking at a briefing in Yerevan today, Viktor
Soghomonian stated that the meetings of Armenian leadership with Deputy
Assistant U.S. Secretary of State Matthew Bryza, EU Special
Representative Peter Semneby, PACE Representative John Prescott, which
took place this week, in many respect assisted that process.

Spokesman of the President stated that the chronology of March 1 events
is restored, backed with video-shots and many other documents. `I am
sure that, after getting familiar with the given chronology, no one
will have doubts about what happened in Yerevan in reality’, Viktor
Soghomonian stated.

Commenting on the proposal on lifting the state of emergency, voiced by
international organizations, Spokesman of the President reminded that
`the responsibility for security of Armenian citizens falls on
authorities of the country, and all the decisions are made, taking into
account the existing realities’.

Viktor Soghomonian stressed that certain limitations, concerning the
work of media, conditioned by the state of emergency, are of temporary
nature.

Spokesman of the President also noted that the authorities are content
with the level of public perception of the measures taken up for
stabilization of the situation.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
