NUMBER OF INITIAL CASES OF DISEASE WITH TUBERCULOSIS DECREASES IN ARMENIA

YEREVAN, MARCH 21, NOYAN TAPAN. March 24 is the international day
of struggle against tuberculosis. This year its slogan is "I Stop
Tuberculosis." About 2.5 mln people die and about 10 mln people are
infected with tuberculosis in the world every year.

As Tatev Kostanian, the office head of the "National Program on
Struggle against Tuberculosis", informed the Noyan Tapan correspondent,
3867 people suffering from tuberculosis are registered in Armenia. 1534
newly found out patients were registered in 2007 (1613 in 2006),
144 of them are children below the age of 17. T. Kostanian also said
that 175 cases of death of people infected with tuberculosis were
registered in 2007, 153 cases were registered in 2006.
