A public protest action has resumed in Yerevan after the state of
emergency regime was canceled. About a thousand people have gathered
for the rally, but more are joining them, REGNUM correspondent has
reported. "Armed" with black ribbons, candles, flowers, and portraits
of arrested protesters, the rally attendants have gathered at the
Freedom Square.

The participants want to commemorate people killed in the mass
disorders on March 1. The law enforcement officers did not allow them
to light candles on the square perimeter. They pushed the people back
by police shields, without the use of force.

The rally has moved to the Alexander Miasnikyan Monument where the
tragic events of March 1 took place.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
