YEREVAN, APRIL 2, ARMENPRESS: Armenian Public TV reported Tuesday that
Robert Sukiasian, the brother of a fugitive parliament member Khachatur
Sukiasian, had been arrested in neighboring Georgia three weeks ago.
Public TV said he was arrested for illegal crossing of the border in
an effort to leave for a third country. He was arrested at Tbilisi
airport when trying to go aboard a plane bound for a third country.
Khachatur Sukiasian had gone into hiding after March 1 unrest in
Yerevan. Armenian law-enforcement bodies want him for taking part
in a plot to usurp power. He is a parliament member, and a close
supporter of ex-president Levon Ter-Petrosian.
Armenian National Assembly (parliament) voted last month to lift his
and three other fellow lawmakers parliament immunity to allow their
prosecution on charges of attempting to seize power.
