YEREVAN, APRIL 4, NOYAN TAPAN. Armenian-Ukrainian relations originated
in the most active period of the two countries’ histories, the period
of seeking independence. Vahan Hovhannisian, a member of the ARFD
Bureau, a RA National Assembly deputy, said at the opening of the
April 4 exhibition dedicated to the 90th anniversary of establishment
of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
He attached importance to the circumstance that Armenian-Ukrainian
relations having good traditions continue developing today in spite of
the fact that the Ukraine being a member of GUAM manifests pro-Azeri
position at various international structures. That, according to
V. Hovhannisian, is explained by "oil expectations" from Azerbaijan,
which have done no good to the Ukraine for already 12 years. According
to the deputy, countries should respect the rights of other countries
to choose allies or to join any security system, but meanwhile they
should try not to defy each other’s interests. "Armenia has always
tried not to damage Ukraine’s interests and expects the same from
the Ukraine," V. Hovhannisian stated.
