ArmInfo. The statements that the presidential election in Armenia
was contrary to all CE standards are nonsense, the PACE rapporteur
on presidential election in Armenia John Prescott said during debates
at PACE session today.
In response to the statements by the Azeri parliamentarians on
the presidential election in Armenia, Prescott said that they had
gathered not to comment on Azeri-Armenian relations. Prescott that
said PACE was ready to help the Armenian authorities to investigate
the post-election events and to build democracy in the country.
To remind, in his speech the head of the Azeri delegation to PACE
Samad Seidov objected to PACE’s wording that the presidential election
in Armenia was mostly in line with the CE standards. He said that
the deaths of peaceful demonstrators could not be regarded as CE
standards. Other parliamentarians said that some MPs were grotesque
in their attempt to criticize the presidential election in Armenia
and their words had nothing to do with the truth.
