SEYRAN OHANYAN APPOINTED AS DEFENSE MINISTER OF ARMENIA

ArmInfo. Today, President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan appointed Seyran
Ohanyan as Defense Minister of Armenia.

In 1983 Ohanyan graduated from military school in Baku. In 1983-1988
he served in the Soviet troops in the German Democratic Republic. In
1992 he joined the Karabakh Defense Army and took part in the Karabakh
war. In Sept 1992 Ohanyan was seriously wounded and had part of his
leg amputated. In Feb 1993 he was appointed as the chief of the staff
of the Karabakh Defense Army. In 1994-1998 he was the first deputy
commander of the Karabakh Defense Army. On Aug 2 1999 Ohanyan was
appointed as Defense Minister of Karabakh. He has been awarded a
number of order and medal. In Sept 1999 he was proclaimed the Hero
of Artsakh. Ohanyan is married and has two sons.
