About 3,000 opposition supporters marched to the Tsitsernakaberd
memorial for the genocide victims in Yerevan on Thursday. The marchers
laid flowers at the Memorial, and chanted "Levon – President!" an
Interfax correspondent reports.

The march was joined by Armenia’s first president and opposition leader
Levon Ter-Petrosian, alongside leader of the Respublika opposition
party Aram Sakrisian, People’s Party leader Stepan Demirchian, member
of the Respublika Political Council Artak Zeinalian, ex-national
security service head David Shakhnazarian and Ter-Petrosian’s former
spokesman Levon Zurabian.

The rally is watched closely by law enforcement services to avoid
any escalation of tensions. Barbed wire and water canon can be seen
in the square near the parliament building.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
