April 29 2008

The Armenian parliament has passed a statement on the settlement
of Nagorno Karabakh conflict, which fixed anxiety about processes,
ongoing around this problem.

The document was adopted by all parliamentary factions, except for
the Heritage opposition faction, which abstained from voting.

According to the speaker of National assembly Tigran Torosyan, two
additions, according to which Armenia is a guarantor of security of
"Nagorno Karabakh" and peaceful negotiations are the only way of the
conflict resolution, have been introduced to the initial version of
the document.

In its statement the national assembly of Armenia suggests to
the President and the government to intensify and expand efforts
and opportunities around the Karabakh problem for development and
execution of measures, aimed at the complete informing of the world
society about the Karabakh problem.

Proposals include intensification of the Armenian policy on Nagorno
Karabakh and formation of legal grounds in line with international
law, which will help Armenia ensure the complete safety and defense of
Nagorno Karabakh is case of aggression or use of force by Azerbaijan.

The document says that Armenian side considers "the militaristic
announcements of Azerbaijani officials and anti-Armenian propaganda,
aimed at hindering the peaceful resolution of the conflict and
failure of the world community to react to these announcements"
to be dangerous.

The document point out "the open steps for hindering the process of
the peaceful resolution of the conflict, undertaken by Azerbaijan,
which intends to attain military superiority by means of oil revenues
and settle the problem by military way, as well as Azerbaijan’s
blackmail towards the OSCE Minsk Group, accompanied by the transfer
of discussions of the problem resolution to other instances".

Armenian parliamentarians consider that various international instances
"react to Azerbaijan’s steps inadequately for different reasons, often
making addressless announcements against the militaristic propaganda".

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
