COMPLAINT OF MEMBER OF YERKRAPAH VOLUNTEERS’ UNION HUSIK BAGHDASARIAN
HEARD AT APPEAL COURT
YEREVAN, MAY 5, NOYAN TAPAN. The RA Criminal Appeal Court presided over
by judge Arshak Khachatrian started examination of appeal complaint of
Husik Baghdasarian, a member of the Yerkrapah Volunteers’ Union accused
of keeping illegal ammunition. By the sentence of the general
jurisdiction court of Ararat and Vayots Dzor regions he was sentenced
to three years’ imprisonment, has been under custody since February 26.
The defence party asks the Appeal Court to reverse the sentence and to
pronounce a "not guilty" verdict.
Husik Baghdasarian, a member of the Yerkrapah Volunteers’ Union, was
the commander of Masis self-defence detachment, under the decree of RA
President Robert Kocharian was awarded Medal For Bravery, as well as
was awarded nominal arms, for some time took the post of Head of the
Special Service of the Defence Ministry guaranteeing security of Prime
Minister of that time, currently Chairman of the Hanrapetutiun
(Republic) party Aram Sargsian.
The defence party considers that the sentence of the general
jurisdiction court is groundless and illegal and the expertise
conclusion that became a basis for it is "incompetent, deliberate,
wrong." According to the expertise conclusion, 16 bullets of 7.62 mm
calibre found in H. Baghdasarian’s house are not intended for the Tigr
hunting gun. The defence party challenges that assertion: one can fire
the bullets from the above mentioned gun, the bullets like the gun have
been got by the legal way. The defence party mediated to fix an
additional expertise, but was rejected, as sufficient evidence has been
got on the criminal case, and the court can make the respective
decision by studying them.
The defence party will make defence speeches at the next court sitting
scheduled for May 8.
