ArmInfo. Counterfeit software products in Armenia decreased to 93%
in 2007 (as against 95% in 2006). This is mentioned in the Business
Software Alliance’s report covering the situation in 108 countries
of the world, Microsoft Armenia Country Manager Grigor Barseghyan
told ArmInfo correspondent.
He noted that despite the fall of piracy level, Armenia continues
holding the leading positions in the world by this indicator. According
to Barseghyan, Bangladesh and Azerbaijan follow Armenia with 92%
piracy rate.
The lowest piracy rate is registered in the United States – 20%. "The
decrease in piracy even by 10% will bring 2 bln AMD profit to the
state", Barseghyan said. He added that developers, particularly,
the ones of the Armenian fonts for personal computers, suffer
great losses. "If each of 200 thsd users of Armenian fonts paid 1
US dollar at least the developers, the latters will obviously have
worthy conditions of life and work", Barseghyan stressed. He pointed
out that despite the low price, 50-60% of counterfeit discs contain
harmful codes which destroy the computer system. "It is in the power
bodies’ competence to protect the copyrights, the IT developers can’t
do this themselves", he said.
