YEREVAN, JUNE 10, NOYAN TAPAN. According to Ruben Hakobian, a former
deputy of the RA Supreme Council, a former member of ARFD, the Armenian
authorities did not take real steps to overcome the complicated home
political situation formed in the country. And both the authorities
and the opposition lack real willingness to conduct a dialogue, he
stated at the June 10 press conference. "For instance, one of the
figures from the current President’s close circle, touching upon the
necessity of a dialogue lately, meanwhile said that first President
Levon Ter-Petrosian should leave the country. And oppositionists,
in their turn, say that a dialogue is needed, meanwhile they say
that the authorities should yield their positions stage by stage,"
R. Hakobian said.

He affirmed that the only issue, in connection with which the two
sides can start a dialogue, is finding those guilty of the March
1 events, and "former President Robert Kocharian can prove to be
guilty." According to R. akobian, the main subject of the dialogue
should be the following issue: "what is the reason that we experienced
this tragedy, this shame?"

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
