YEREVAN, JUNE 17, NOYAN TAPAN. The democratic reforms in Armenia are
not limited to the steps being implemented in the direction of the
provisions of Resolution 1609 of the Parliamentary Assembly of the
Council of Europe and will have a continuation. This statement was
made by Serge Sargsian, the President of the Republic of Armenia,
receiving John Prescott and George Colombier, co-Speakers of the
Monitoring Commission of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council
of Europe, on June 16. He also mentioned that the implementation of
the provisions of the PACE resolution proceeds from his pre-electoral
program and is in keeping with the priorities declared by the political
coalition. Serge Sargsian reaffirmed the distinct intention of the
authorities of Armenia for taking the road of further deepening of
democratic reforms.
According to the information provided to Noyan Tapan by the
RA President’s Press Office, John Prescott highly appreciated the
creation of a special task group by the RA President and the work
conducted in the direction of the implementation of the provisions of
the PACE Resolution 1609. He stressed that irrespective of the fact
that the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe understands
very well that the mentioned period of time for the implementation of
the provisions of the resolution is not enough for having complete
progress in all the directions, it is happy to record the political
will existing in the direction of the implementation of the reforms.
