YEREVAN, JUNE 17, NOYAN TAPAN. The preliminary investigation of
the criminal case filed in connection with the March 1 events is
unilateral, implementing a criminal prosecution towards people, who
have allegedly used force against the police. This point of view was
expressed by advocate Vahe Grigorian during the discussion, which was
held on June 17. Whereas, according to the advocate, it is mentioned in
Resolution 1609 of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe
(PACE) that it is also necessary to examine the proportionality of
the force used towards the demonstrators by the police.
Touching upon the allegation of the authorities, according to which
there are no political prisoners in Armenia, Vahe Grigorian said:
"If there are really no people prosecuted for their political position,
then why do the authorities show the people recently justified by court
and say that they have fulfiled the demand of the PACE Resolution
1609, according to which those detained for political viewpoints
should be set free?" According to the advocate, the justification
of the opposition political figures will be possible to consider as
part of real justice, if those guilty are discovered and punished at
the same time.
