ARMENIAN ENGINEERING UNIVERSITY, TRANSPORT MINISTRY SIGN MEMORANDUM

YEREVAN, June 23. /ARKA/. The State Engineering University of
Armenia and the Ministry of Transport and Communication of Armenia
have signed a memorandum on cooperation aiming to re-establish links
between Universities and production.

Rector of the Engineering University Vostanik Marukhyan said the
document pursues far-reaching goals especially in conditions of
the present rates of high technology development, which will allow
specifying the current place and tasks of the University.

The Memorandum provisions apply to three departments of the University
– radio engineering and communication system, information science
and computer technologies, as well as technical cybernetics.

Minister of Transport and Communication Gurgen Sargsyan said
establishing links between the production, science and university is
of great importance.

"Once this relation was broken, but today the production realizes
the importance of education for further business development and
educational establishments raise the level of education in which
this kind of cooperation becomes a compulsory challenge of time,"
Sargsyan said.

The Memorandum stipulates working jointly to modernize curricula, train
specialists meeting the market demands, implement scientific research,
R&D and other projects. The Memorandum has been signed for three
years with possible further prolongation for another three-year term.

State Engineering University of Armenia was founded in 1933. Over
100,000 students have graduated the University so far.

Currently, the University has 11,000 students, and about a thousand
professors.
