GRANT PROJECT ON COOPERATION BETWEEN SCIENCE AND PRIVATE SECTOR STARTED IN ARMENIA

A grant project on promotion of cooperation between the science
and the private sector started in Armenia, Director of Enterprise
Incubator Foundation (EIF) Bagrat Yengibarian reported.

It has been the third successive year that the EIF together with
the U.S.

Civilian Research and Development Foundation (CRDF) is implementing
a grant project on promotion of cooperation between the science field
and the private sector in Armenia, he said.

This year Armenian Ministry of Economy is also to join the project
implemented under the Science & Technology Entrepreneur Programs
(STEP).

Armenia focuses on development of science-intensive economy,
Yengibarian said stressing the importance of mechanisms and
opportunities for commercialization of knowledge.

Under the project, three grants $10,000 each will be allocated with the
focus to be placed on information technologies under the project. The
main requirement is joints developments of the scientific and private
sectors.

The Project Manager of the CRDF Natalia Pipia pointed out that the
Foundation will assist in preparation and development of programs
and their submission to potential investors at the conference on
development of venture capital to be held in October.

For participation in the project scientists are to attract private
sector able to allocate 10% of the grant amount to ensure that the
private sector is interested in the development, Pipia said. The
deadline for submission of application to the EIF is July 25.

Main finalists are to be determined by August 25. Finalists will have
an opportunity to attend a training course in Armenia on preparation
of a business plan and submission of a project in particular.
