40 years ago St. Vardan Cathedral was erected on one of the central
streets of New York. Back in 1968 Catholicos of All Armenians Vazgen
I had sanctified the earth on which years later the cathedral was to
be constructed.
On the 40th anniversary the Primacy of the Eastern Eparchy of the
USA organized an exhibition where 70 graphic and oil paint works of
35 modern and 20th century artists were exhibited.
At the opening organizer of the exhibition thanked the Whitney Museum
of American Art in New York, which had gladly provided the famous
painting "Artist with his mother" by Arshil Gorky to be demonstrated
in the exhibition for a day.
Another interesting sight in the exhibition was the graphic work of
celebrated American Armenian writer William Saroyan.
The evening was concluded by a concert with participation of
Lusine Amara /soprano/, Shahan Artsruni /piano/, and Ani Aznavurian
/violoncello/. Among the guests of the exhibition was RA Ambassador
Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the UNO Armen Martirossian.
