The congress convened lately by Edward Antinian, a former member of
the Liberal-Progressive Party of Armenia (LPPA) is illegal, as it
was organized and held with violation of a number of provisions of
party Regulations. Hovhannes Hovhannisian, LPPA Chairman, stated at
the July 1 press conference. According to him, when convening the
congress E. Antinian did not take into consideration the opinion of
the majority of party Political Board members: as Antinian affirmed,
he just received an approval by Gayane Dabaghian, one of the Political
Board members residing in the U.S. to hold a special congress. While,
according to H.

Hovhannisian, it has been found out lately that G. Dabaghian refuted
that information. E. Antinian threatened another member of the
Political Board, Ashot Hovhannisian to make him dismiss from the job
with the help of the authorities if he remains in the party Political
Board. As a result, according to H. Hovhannisian, A. Hovhannisian
submitted an application on leaving LPPA.

Touching upon E. Antinian’s affirmations that LPPA has never convened
a congress since the day of its foundation, H. Hovhannisian said that
on November 15, 2007 the Political Board decided to hold a congress
on February 23, 2008. However, according to him, as the political
situation in the country was extremely strained in the last decade
of 2008 February and the LPPA members held rallies, sit-down strikes
every day, a sitting of the Political Board was held on February 23,
as well, during which it was decided to postpone the congress.

H. Hovhannisian said that at present there is a decision of
the Political Board on inviting a LPPA regular congress on July
26. Classing E. Antinian’s activity as anti-party and beyond moral
norms H. Hovhannisian gave assurance that E. Antinian does all this
at the bidding of the authorities. "The authorities are not able to
oppose to the National Movement and with the help of some figures
try to create "a third force," he said.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
