ONE-MAN PARTIES HAVE NOTHING TO DO IN THE POLITICAL DOMAIN

Head of the Press and Analytical Department of Armenian Liberal
Democratic Party that has joint "Ramkavar" party, member of the
political council of "Alliance" Gnel Ghlechyan represents his
standpoints regarding the developments in the pro-oppositional camp.

"Unfortunately in our political reality the political figure that
criticizes the ruling authorities from more radical positions and is
skilled in using bad language is considered real opposition. Before
Levon Ter-Petrosyan’s famous speech delivered in the government’s
session hall there was a feeling that the forces supporting him
will be based on liberal ideas and liberal values. But the concrete
accentuations heard in the speech, about which I wouldn’t like to
speak, convinced many clever people that those who consider themselves
"radical" are far not liberal, they are rather pro-central.

However it was Levon Ter-Petrosyan who announced that the future
congress must be a pro-central force. I sincerely want them to be a
success. But in my view it is impossible to build future with small
and separated parties."

"Don’t you consider it ridiculous that among the twenty unknown parties
which are going to form a congress Armenian Pan National Movement is
the first and "Hnchakyan" is the second?"

"For me it is unacceptable and imperceptible how Marxist can support
Levon Ter-Petrosyan and communist – Serge Sargsyan. For me it is not
important whether the congress will be formed of 15 or 20 parties. The
most important thing is to make the political domain healthier. It is
another issue that their value system is unacceptable for me. This
is the reason why we endorsed neither Levon Ter-Petrosyan nor Serge
Sargsyan.

We would like the acting parties to unite around one ideological,
national and democratic value system. And it is not important who will
be the leader of this unification. The most important thing is to have
powerful institutional parties. And it must be practical, no matter
where it will work – in the pro-governmental or pro-oppositional
domain. It would be desirable if the socialists also pursued the
same goal.

The problem is not in forming the third force. Political unit is not
characterized by numbers, but rather its political direction, adopted
policy and programs. All the political figures must understand that
one-man parties have nothing to do in the political domain."

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
