THE CATHOLICOSATE OF CILICIA PARTICIPATES IN
THE WCC SEARCH COMMITTEE MEETING

The Search Committee tasked with finding a General Secretary for the World
Council of Churches (WCC) convened in the German city of Hofgeismar on July
9-11. Bishop Nareg Alemezian (Ecumenical Officer) represented the
Catholicosate of Cilicia at the meeting.

The participants in the meeting listened to the concerns expressed by WCC
member churches and ecumenical organizations, the assessment reports of WCC
presidents and reports prepared by members of the committee on their
meetings with WCC officials. The participants then drafted the job
description of the new general secretary, the application for the position
and the report to be presented to the September 2008 meeting of the WCC
Executive Council.

The new General Secretary of WCC will assume the post on January 1, 2010.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
