FOODSTUFF INTERNATIONAL CRISIS IMPACT ON ARMENIA

Comparing the import and export of foodstuff in Armenia, it
is obvious that Armenia is an importing country rather than an
exporting. Hence the local food agricultural market is more sensitive
to the international price changes, said Samvel Avetisyan the first
deputy minister of Agriculture.

"Liberal economists say that there is no food crisis in the world. They
say if there is a demand and if the country has money, then it will
purchase," he said.

According to the deputy minister, as there is a demand for a certain
product, then countries make higher prices and sell them to payable
countries. Mr. Avetisyan said that the only solution to the problem
is to increase the local production of various kinds of foodstuff.
