YOU CAN’T RELEASE PEOPLE BY TELEPHONE CALLS

During one of his latest demonstrations Ter-Petrosyan promised to
"agree to a dialogue" with Serge Sargsyan, provided the latter
releases all the "political prisoners with one telephone call". Why
didn’t the president respond to this "tempting" proposal?

In response to our question President Serge Sargsyan answered with
the following question: "If some people’s demand and their only goal
is to hold new elections what can I discuss with these people? How to
hold these elections? I’m tired of elections. Just recently we have
already hold elections and by the way not one. The next Republican
elections are going to be hold after 4 tears.

As for releasing people with one telephone call, I’m not accustomed to
such working style. And it is a very bad temptation. Because releasing
ten people with one call means detaining ten people with one call. If
you consider it right than I will think about it. If you consider my
working style right I will continue to work this way."

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
