Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan considers the PACE resolution
on Azerbaijan contradicting to the European system of values.
The department for public relations and information of the government
announced that during the meeting with PACE chairman Luis Maria de Puig
the Prime Minister expressed anxiety about the formulation adopted at
the June session of PACE, according to which the democratic development
of Azerbaijan is bound to restoration of territorial integrity.
According to Sargsyan, such formulation is too dangerous, threatens
the current negotiation process on the Karabakh conflict and does
not comply with European system of values and main principles.
"The principle of territorial integrity is the same norm of
international law as the right of nations for self-determination and
the statement, according to which the development of democratic
institutions in Azerbaijan is difficult without restoration
of territorial integrity, is a step back from the PACE-adopted
principles", considers Sargsyan.
The summer session of PACE adopted a resolution on Azerbaijan, which
contains a paragraph according to which the democratization in a
country having a problem of territorial integrity is difficult.
