Press Conference Advisory

Assemblymember Krekorian Fights to Stop Dangerous Speeding Drivers

Fate of bill to take the worst speeders off our streets to be decided
by key Senate Committee

Assemblymember Paul Krekorian will conduct a press conference to discuss
his legislation, AB 2669, that will help to rid our streets of drivers
who are among the greatest dangers to the lives of our families — those
who repeatedly commit gross violations of speed limits.

Assemblymember Krekorian introduced AB 2669 is in response to the many
serious accidents in our community that have been caused by reckless
speeding, including the tragic death of Elizabeth Sandoval in Glendale
last year. Under this legislation, drivers who speed in excess of 26
miles over the posted speed limit on city streets will be penalized with
an extra violation point on their driving record. As a result, these
serial gross violators will lose their driving licenses twice as quickly
as under current law, making our streets safer for law-abiding drivers
and pedestrians.

AB 2669 passed the Assembly with overwhelming bipartisan support. It is
currently before the Senate Appropriations Committee, which will act
next week to allow the bill to proceed to a vote of the full Senate.
