ARMENIAN SPORTSMEN WIN THEIR FIRST MEDALS AT BEIJING 2008 GAMES

BEIJING, AUGUST 12, NOYAN TAPAN. Armenian sportsmen today won their
first medals at the Beijing Summer Olympic Games. Greco-Roman wrestler
Roman Amoyan won the bronze medal in men’s 55 kg weight category,
while weightlifter Tigran Martirosian took third place in men’s 69
kg weight category.

According to Radio Liberty, Roman Amoyan beat Cuba’s Yagniel Hernandez
(3-0, 5-0) in the wrestling match for 3rd place. In the semi-final
match R. Amoyan was beaten by Rovshan Bayramov (Azerbaijan) – 2-7, 1-4.

In the 69 kg category (weightlifting), Liao Hui (China) won the gold
medal, while French wrestler Vencelas Dabaya won the silver.
