Armenia’s state veterinarian inspection carries out 808 checkups,
reveals 2,400 violations

YEREVAN, August 16. /ARKA/. Armenia’s State Veterinarian Inspection
carried out 808 checkups, revealing 2,400 food safety violations in the
first half of 2008, reported Grigor Baghyan, head of the Veterinarian
and Food Safety State Inspection, RA Ministry of Agriculture.

The Inspection recalled products past their expiry date, unlabelled,
low-quality non-inspected goods.

The RA Minister of Agriculture has charged the inspection to keep a
vigilant watch over the livestock business and vegetable food sales in
local markets. `Economic entities have time to correct mistakes,’
Baghyan said. Only after this they will be allowed to market goods.

`We haven’t yet reached the level to be immune to any violation.
However, our objective is to help create favorable conditions for
business and guarantee food safety, not just fine business entities and
force them to pay administrative penalty,’ Baghyan added. `0–
