Azerbaijani Diaspora in Turkey protests against Abdullah Gul’s visit
to Armenia

Ankara ` APA. Turkey-Azerbaijan Circles Federation made a statement on
Abdullah Gul’s visit to Armenia on September 6. State Committee on
Work with Azerbaijanis Living Abroad told APA that according to the
statement sport has great contributions to the friendship between
states and peoples of the world.

`In this respect, sport has become a general value. Turkey-Azerbaijan
Circles Federation agrees to this reality and does not object the
match between Turkish and Armenian football teams in Yerevan. But
Turkey-Azerbaijan Circles Federation considers that no general value
can prevail over indivisibility of Turkey. The Armenians, who almost
everyday claim that Eastern Anatolia is the territory of western
Armenia, can not demand us to open our borders which they refuse
recognize. The Armenians, who call Aghri dagh as Ararat, describe it
on the state emblem, accuse our forefathers of committing `genocide’,
continue to occupy 20 percent of Azerbaijani territory, committed
massacre against our compatriots, established the so-called state in
Karabakh, cannot call us to become friends,’ the statement says.
The statement made by Turkey-Azerbaijan Circles Federation says that
Armenian leadership’s inviting Turkish President to Yerevan aims to
isolate Azerbaijan and take advantage of the crisis in the Caucasus
for the sake of `strong Armenia’.
`We being an important layer of society think that `invitation to
watch this match’ does not comply with supreme interests of our
country,’ the statement says.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
