Turkish Citizens of Armenian Nationality Welcome Gul Decision

TURKISH CITIZENS OF ARMENIAN NATIONALITY WELCOME ABDULLAH GUL’S
DECISION TO LEAVE FOR YEREVAN

ISTANBUL, SEPTEMBER 4, ARMENIANS TODAY – NOYAN TAPAN. Turkish citizens
of Armenian nationality welcomed with great joy Abdullah Gul’s decision
to accept his counterpart Serzh Sargsyan’s invitation to watch together
the Armenia-Turkey football match which will take place in Yerevan on
September 6, mentioning that that it will be a great contribution to
the formation of friendly atmosphere between the two nations.

Turkish agency Cihan has conducted a poll among Turkish citizens of
Armenian nationality connected with Gul’s Yerevan visit and has got the
following responses.

For example, Hanefi Demirci said that this visit can build bridges of
friendship between the two nations. At the same time he criticized
Turkish People’s-Republican party’s leader Deniz Baykal for being
against that visit: "They confuse sports with politics and try to make
sports an instrument for politics. According to me, the visit is a very
important and very valuable step," said Demirci.

Cesur Yldez, Shahin Payel, as well as Murad Ekmekchioglu also welcomed
Gul’s decision to leave for Yerevan, underlining that this is a very
good chance for the establishment and development of bilateral friendly
relations.

In his turn Alain Tekbchak noted that it is time to put aside the
hostility existing in the past: "It is time to leave history to
historians. The creation of friendly relations between the two
countries in our days is useful both in economic and in social
respects," he said.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
