U.S. Navy’s oceanographic visit comes to Sevastopol seaport

KYIV Sept 4

The Pathfinder oceanographic vessel of the U.S. Navy arrived in the
Sevastopol seaport on an unofficial visit on Thursday. The vessel will
stay in the Sevastopol seaport on September 4-6 and then on September
15-17, the Ukrainian State Border Service said.

The Pathfinder will take part in the U.S.-Ukrainian search for the
Armenia medical vessel, which sank offshore the Ayu-Dag Cape and the
Ai- Todor Lighthouse in 1941.

The Ukrainian Culture and Tourism Ministry and the State Service for
National Cultural Heritage granted permission for the search on April
10, 2008. The U.S. embassy sent a memo to that effect to the Ukrainian
Foreign Ministry on July 30, and the issue was coordinated with
authorized agencies on August 11. Then the Ukrainian Cabinet permitted
the vessel to visit the Ukrainian seaport for taking aboard fresh
water and food.

The Ukrainian State Border Service handled the visit formalities.

That is the second U.S. vessel to visit Sevastopol this September.

The Dallas Coast Guard ship paid a visit on September 1-2. It was
engaged in the U.S. supply of humanitarian aid to Georgia.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
