PM says Gul’s Armenia visit to improve Turkey’s image

Turkish President Abdullah Gul’s decision to accept his Armenian
counterpart’s invitation would effect the country’s image in the
international arena and changed the rules of the game, prime minister
said.

`If (Gul) did not go then everybody would say that `He would not even
go to a sports game.’ His decision would change this game,’ Prime
Minister Tayip Erdogan told a group of journalists on his way to
Ankara from Damascus, Hurriyet reported on Saturday.

He said Gul’s visit is also important for Turkey’s attempt to form a
Caucasian alliance, adding Foreign Minister Ali Babacan would meet his
Armenian counterpart on Saturday to discuss the proposal.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
