Armenia 0 – Turkey 2
Turkey strolled to victory on Saturday with a 2-0 win over neighbours
Armenia, in a game which saw the first visit of a Turkish president to
the country.
Abdullah Gul attended the match in what he said was an attempt to
"contribute to the creation of a climate of friendship in the region".
Despite failing to make the 2006 World Cup, Turkey are among the
favourites to qualify for South Africa in 2010 after an impressive
performance at Euro 2008 and Armenia can take a lot of credit for
holding them at bay for an hour.
However, Armenia shot themselves in the foot when they allowed Tuncay
Sanli to score from close range before a defensive mistake let in
Semih Senturk 12 minutes from time.
