ARMENIA TO SELL ELECTRICITY TO TURKEY

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 10, NOYAN TAPAN. In accordance with an agreement
reached between Armenia and Turkey, Armenia will start selling
electricity to Turkey.
NT was informed by the RA ministry of energy that by an agreement
already signed by Unit company (Turkey) and High-Voltage Electric
Networks of Armenia CJSC, the process will be done without any
mediator, by a direct Armenia-Turkey link, through the territory
of Kars.
The agreement envisages importing 1.5 billion kwh a year in the
initial period. In parallel with an increase of the capacities,
it will be possible to raise imports up to 3.5 billion kwh.
The Turkish side assumed the obligaton to solve all technical problems
and restore the electric transmission lines within the next four
months.
