YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 10, NOYAN TAPAN. On September 9, at about 22:00,
policemen using force dispersed the people who had gathered in
Northern Avenue and took to police station participants of the
termless hunger strike they went on the same day "with the demand
of releasing political prisoners." According to the statement of the
Armenian National Congress, Vladimir Karapetian, the Coordinator of
Foreign Relations of the Armenian National Congress, was also taken
to police station.
"The regime losing its head surpasses all limits of not only legality
and morality, but also logic and reason making the policemen do
illegal actions.
The most elementary manifestations of human rights, each placard,
action of protest drives band leaders to schizophrenia. Their
biological incompatibility with civilized society is proved every day
and every day of the authorities only increases the shameful pages
of our history. All this is indeed symptoms of the real agony of the
regime: it is inevitable for any regime gaining all-round hatred of
its own people, suffering from an inner realization and complex of
illegitimacy," ANC statement read.
