ARMENTEL TELECOMMUNICATION COMPANY’S DOMINANCE IN FIXED

YEREVAN, September 12. /ARKA/. Armenian Public Services Regulatory
Commission intends to discuss possible recognition of ArmeTel
Telecommunication Company’s dominance in fixed telecommunication
market the next Wednesday.
Gevorg Gevorgyan, chief of the commission’s unit on communications,
told ARKA News Agency that Armenian law sets certain commitments for
economy entities. To make these commitments applying also to ArmenTel,
the commission has to recognize the company’s dominance.
"The commission’s decision implies no sanctions against ArmenTel,
but if the company commits abuses, necessary sanctions will be imposed
on it", Gevorgyan said.
ArmenTel (Beeline brand) is the only company providing fixed
telecommunication services in Armenia.
On October1, 2007, the company was stripped of its monopolies on all
types of telecommunication services.
ArmenTel’s parent company is Russian Vimpelcom (Beeline brand),
which holds 100% of ArmenTel’s stocks.
ArmenTel provides fixed telecommunication services (650,000 users)
and mobile communication (more than 780,000 users).
