63rd Session Of U.N. General Assembly Opens Today

63D SESSION OF U.N. GENERAL ASSEMBLY OPENS TODAY

YEREVAN, 16.09.08. DE FACTO. 63d session of the U. N. General Assembly
officially opens in New York today. Annual common debates will start
on Tuesday, September 23, and will last till October 1. Over 120 heads
of states and governments, as well as FMs and heads of delegations
are expected to speak from the General Assembly’s rostrum.

Two issues referring to the Republic of Armenia and NKR are included
in the discussions’ agenda. It is item 13 of the agenda: "Protracted
Conflicts on GUAM Territory and their Consequences for International
Peace, Security and Development" (resolution 62/249); and item 18:
"Situation on Azerbaijan’s Occupied Territories" (resolution 62/243).

To remind, on current March 14 the U. N. GA already approved a
resolution "Situation on Azerbaijan’s Occupied Territories". Then
39 countries voted for the resolution, 7 against, 100 abstained. 46
more countries did not participate in the voting. To add, the OSCE
Minsk group all three co-chairing countries – the U. S., Russian
and France – voted against it. According to the RA President’s Press
Office, Armenian President Serge Sargsian is to participate in the
63d session of the U. N. GA. In part, RA President will address the
audience in the course of the session. RA FM Edvard Nalbandian will
meet with Turkish and Azeri FMs within the frames of the session.

Over 160 items of the agenda are planned to be considered in the
course of the main part of the General Assembly, in part, ensuring
peace and security, struggle against terrorism, the issues referring
to social and economic development. The Assembly will also continue
consideration of the issues referring to activating its work and
struggle against HIV/AIDS.
