ARMENIAN PRESIDENT RECEIVES PRESIDENT OF NATO PA

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 17, ARMENPRESS: Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan
received today President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly (NATO PA)
Jose Lello.

Presidential press service told Armenpress that during the meeting
the president said he is pleased with the current level of cooperation
with NATO and noted that Armenia views it as a part of the security of
the country. According to Serzh Sargsyan, NATO Individual Partnership
Action Plan Program gives Armenia an opportunity to have a defense
system which will correspond to the international standards.

Jose Lello said that Armenia’s parliament is represented in the NATO
PA quite well.

The sides also exchanged thoughts over the situation created in the
region and the recent developments. According to them, what happened
in Georgia once again showed the vital necessary of having alternative
roads for Armenia.

NATO top official underscored role of Armenia in ensuring regional
security and noted that the Euro-Atlantic Alliance expects active
cooperation for creating secure environment.

He also highly assessed the "football diplomacy" of the Armenian
president.

Noting that he supports dialogue and is sure that in case of its
existence any issue, even the most difficult ones, may be discussed,
Serzh Sargsyan said, "Our aim is to establish rationale, logical
relations with Turkey for making stability and cooperation in the
region source of welfare of our peoples."
