ARMENIAN GOVERNMENT DECLARES JERMUK A CENTER OF TOURISM

ArmInfo. The Armenian government has declared Jermuk a center of
tourism.
Presenting the relevant project, RA Deputy Minister of Economy Vahe
Danielyan noted that Jermuk has a great potential of development
of both summer and winter tourism. It has both mineral springs and
opportunities for skiing equipment.
Danielyan noted that a couple of decades ago Jermuk was a tourism
center of all-Soviet Union significance and received about 20 thsd
tourists annually, while at the moment the number of tourists makes
up 5 thsd. To recall, a new cable way was built in Jermuk in 2007, the
Armenian state budget allocated 1.3 bln AMD for this purpose. According
to the program on development of Jermuk till 2012, the annual number
of tourists in the city is to be increased to 100 thsd, and the profit
of tourism industry in Jermuk – to 100 mln USD. It is envisaged to
create about 4000 job places. According to the Tourism Development
Conception worked out by the RA economy ministry, by 2030 the total
number of visitors to Armenia is to make up 3 mln people annually, and
the total volume of necessary investments makes up about 2.7 bln USD.
The deputy minister said that at the moment the main task is to
improve both transport infrastructure and internet communication.
