330 THOUSAND SQUARE METERS COVERED WITH ASPHALT IN YEREVAN IN FIRST 8 MONTHS OF 2008

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 22, NOYAN TAPAN. Asphalt laying (330 thousand sq.m)
and crack filling work, as well as repairs of streets and pavements was
done in Yerevan in the first eight months of 2008. The deputy mayor
of Yerevan Vano Vardanian said at the September 22 press conference
that reinforcement of eight third-degree accident prone buildings
was completed in the indicated period, and reinforcement of another
two will finish in late September.
In his words, 15 city bridges were repaired with 70 million drams
(233.3 thousand USD) allocated from the state budget. Tram lines
in Malatia-Sebastia and Bagratunyats Streets were dismantled this
year, and asphalt laying (250 thousand sq.m) and crack filling (125
thousand linear meters) was done in these streets. Construction of
a 83 linear meter breast-wall of the Hrazdan River was completed,
thanks to which the residents of the houses near the river will not
have problems after floods.
Major repairs of the outdoor lighting networks in 17 streets of
Yerevan will finish in October.
V. Vardanian announced that 419 elevators were repaired in the city
in the first quarter of 2008 and 719 ones in the second quarter. It
is planned to finish repairs of 2,464 elevators by October.
