Presidential candidate of the U.S. Democrat Party, Barack Obama,
described Turkish President Abdullah Gul’s recent meeting with his
Armenian counterpart Serzh Sargsyan in Yerevan as "a hopeful step"
and praised this meeting.

The step taken by Turkish and Armenian leaders could bring
normalization that would be welcomed with pleasure, Obama said in
a message released on the occasion of the anniversary of Armenia’s
independence, Anatolian Agency reported.

A warmer period began between Turkey and Armenia, who for more than a
decade have not had any diplomatic relations, after Turkish President
Abdullah Gul paid a landmark visit to Armenia early September.

Turkey hopes this period would lead to the normalization of the
relations. Turkey and Armenia do not have diplomatic relations because
of Armenia’s aggression against Azerbaijan.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
