SARGSYAN, RICE AGREE THE KARABAKH ISSUE SHOULD BE SOLVED THROUGH PEACE TALKS

In New York RA President Serzh Sargsyan had a meeting with US Secretary
of State Condoleezza Rice. The parties discussed a wide range of issues
related to the Armenian-American relations and regional developments.
President Sargsyan expressed gratitude to the US Government for the
assistance rendered to Armenia. In response, the Secretary of State
noted that Armenia registers progress in political reforms, which is
a good basis for maintaining the continuity of such assistance.
The parties turned to the process of settlement of the Karabakh
conflict. RA President reiterated the willingness of Armenia to solve
the Nagorno Karabakh conflict through peaceful negotiations.
Condoleezza Rice stressed the importance of the peaceful settlement
of the Karabakh issue and underlined that such resolution of the
issue will facilitate the establishment of peace and cooperation in
the region. The State Secretary congratulated the Armenian President
for his initiative targeted at the normalization of relations with
Turkey and expressed hope that the visit of the Turkish President
to Armenia and the recent Armenian-Turkish meetings will lay a good
basis for the future of bilateral cooperation.
