RUSSIAN DEPUTY HAS NO DOUBT ABOUT NAGORNYY KARABAKH REPUBLIC STATEHOOD

ArmInfo. ‘I have no doubt about statehood of Nagornyy Karabakh’,
– first deputy of Russian State Duma Committee on the CIS issues,
director of CIS countries Institute Konstantin Zatulin said over
today’s video-bridge Yerevan-Moscow "The results of Russian President
Dmitriy Medvedev’s visit to Armenia".

‘I visited Karabakh several times. This gave me an opportunity
to assure once again how this country went ahead in the matter of
democratic state building. And this is not thanks to the fact that the
NKR has armed forces, security service or something else’, – he said.

But Zatulin said that Russia can de-jure recognize the NKR not
earlier than circumstances and the geo-political situation will make
it possible. ‘Russia may recognize Karabakh not earlier than Armenia,
which preserves the NKR recognition problem as a reserve card, will
do it’, – he said.

‘We understand very well the motives which the Armenian authorities are
guided with not recognizing independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

Stemming from this Russia fully supported Armenian president’s
initiative to start negotiations with Turkey, since this will make
it possible for Armenia to escape depending on Georgia’, – Zatulin
concluded.
