COOPERATION WITH NATO IS COMPONENT OF ARMENIA’S SECURITY

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 20, NOYAN TAPAN. RA President Serzh Sargsyan during
his October 20 meeting with Robert Simmons, NATO Secretary General’s
Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia, stated that
the European direction remains one of Armenia’s foreign political
priorities, and cooperation with NATO is one of its most important
elements. According to S. Sargsyan, cooperation with NATO is the
component of Armenia’s security and it will continue.

R. Simmons, in his turn, estimated the process of NATO-Armenia
cooperation as very successful and said that there are good
preconditions for developing the relations.

The interlocutors exchanged thoughts over issues regarding providing
security and stability in the region. S. Sargsyan in general outline
presented Armenian side’s view concerning the events in the South
Caucasus, Nagorno Karabakh settlement, latest developments in
Armenian-Turkish relations.

As Noyan Tapan was informed by the RA President’s Press Office,
S. Simmons stated that NATO greets and protects Armenia’s initiative
and resolution to normalize its relations with Turkey.
