ACCORDING TO PRELIMINARY RESULTS OF LOCAL SELF-GOVERNMENT ELECTIONS IN GEGHARKUNIK REGION, AT LEAST 3 OUT OF 5 CURRENT MAYORS TO RETAIN THEIR POSTS

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 28, NOYAN TAPAN. According to the preliminary
results of the local self-government elections held on October 26 in
the Gegharkunik region, current Mayors won the elections in 3 out of
region’s towns. At that, current Gavar Mayor, member of the United
Labor Party Gurgen Martirosian was the only candidate for community
head elections. 8 035 voters voted for and 73 against him.
As Noyan Tapan correspondent was informed by Tatev Ohanian, the
Spokesperson of the RA Central Electoral Commission, current Sevan
Mayor, RPA member Gevorg Malkhasian received 7 315 votes and his only
rival, non-partisan Hrachik Karapetian 2 578 votes.
In the elections of community head of Martuni, current Mayor, RPA
member Bagrat Haroutiunian received 3 222 votes and his rivals, RPA
member Rashid Hakobian and non-partisan Garik Hakobian 1 251 and 1
514 votes, respectively.
1 793 voters voted for current Chambarak Mayor, non-partisan Yurik
Avalian and 1 768 voters his rival, RPA member Rita Hovhannisian. It is
noteworthy that the number of inaccuracies here is 142, which exceeds
the difference of the votes received by the two candidates. Under
such a correlation, the district electoral commission, according to
the Electoral Code, will have to invalidate the elections, as it will
be impossible to find out the elected candidate.
According to the preliminary results of Vardenis Mayor’s elections,
current Mayor, RPA member Vardan Barseghian received 2 325 votes,
which is less by 478 votes than those received by RPA member Volodya
Khloyan. RPA member Vardan Yeranosian received 408 votes, National
Democratic Union member Gevorg Bokhian 111 votes, non-partisan Samvel
Martirosian 58 votes.
