PRESIDENTS OF AZERBAIJAN, ARMENIA AND RUSSIA SIGN JOINT DECLARATION

Baku – APA. The presidents of Azerbaijan, Armenia and Russia had a
trilateral meeting in Russian President’s "Mein Dorf" residence near
Moscow on November 2.
APA reports that following the meeting Ilham Aliyev, Serzh
Sarkisian and Dmitry Medvedev signed a joint declaration on Nagorno
Karabakh. Briefing the journalists about the text of the declaration,
Dmitry Medvedev said they had thoroughly discussed the prospects of
the settlement of Nagorno Karabakh conflict through political means,
mediation of OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs and direct dialogue between
Azerbaijan and Armenia.
According to the declaration, the presidents state that by solving
the conflict politically basing on the principles and norms of
the international law, decisions and documents adopted within this
framework, they will help to ensure normal situation in the South
Caucasus and stability and security in the region. This will create
favorable conditions for economic development and all-round cooperation
in the region.
Taking into consideration the meeting of OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs
with the parties in Madrid in November, 2007, aiming to work out the
main principles of political solution, the presidents underline the
great importance of their continuing mediating efforts.
The declaration underlines that achieving peaceful solution to the
conflict should be accompanied by legally binding international
guarantees of all aspects and stages of the process.
The declaration also says that the presidents of Azerbaijan and Armenia
reached an agreement to continue the work on political settlement
of Nagorno Karabakh conflict, as well as high-level contacts, and
instructed their foreign ministers to speed up the negotiation process
in collaboration with OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs.
The presidents underline the necessity of creating conditions for
strengthening confidence in the context of efforts on the settlement
of the conflict.
The declaration was signed in the presence of OSCE Minsk Group
co-chairs.
