EBRD PORTFOLIO OVER 100MLN EURO IN ARMENIA IN 2008

YEREVAN, November 4. /ARKA/. The general portfolio of the European
Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) transcended â~B¬100mln
in Armenia in 2008, Michael Weinstein, the EBRD Armenian Office Head,
told ARKA News Agency.
He noted the sum will be increased by â~B¬60-70mln next year.
According to Weinstein, the EBRD does not intend to participate in
the capital of Armenian banks ant the means will be provided for
loaning programs.
He stated 12 Armenian banks will be operating through EBRD loaning
program next year, if loaning programs are carried out through
ten Armenian banks by the end of this year, instead of the current
nine banks.
Weinstein said the Bank intends to credit micro-small and medium
businesses, as well as to carry out projects in infrastructures.
He noted the EBRD plans to cooperate with leading companies, as well
as take part in the second phase of the construction of Zvartnots
International Airport, providing with construction of the airport’s
second terminal.
Armenia became EBRD member on December 7, 1992 with EUR 10mln of
shares.
EBRD currently takes part in the capital of four Armenian banks,
namely Byblos Bank Armenia CJSC, Armeconombank OSJC, ProCredit CJSC
and Araratbank OJSC.
EBRD is one of Armenia’s largest investors and placed â~B¬202mln
through realization of 52 programs.
